As a Boulder family photographer, I have to be flexible with the weather. Luckily on this day, I didn’t have any worries. I met Anna and her crew in Boulder on a perfect afternoon. The previous day we had winds at 20mph and I was thinking there is no way we would be able to make the session happen. Wind can be fun, but wind and a toddler is NEVER fun, especially in the dead of winter.
I prepped Anna by making sure she brought a few cozy blankets and some favorite toys (See the guest appearance of the adorable ukulele below!). I always recommend this for every family session, even if it’s not in winter. Everyone loves a picnic right? And toys in the heat of a toddler meltdown can be a total game changer. I also always let my parents know that meltdowns are completely normal and I would be surprised if they didn’t happen. It can be cold, hot, overwhelming during the shoot and this brings out all the emotions. Also, HUNGER. A hungry kid is a recipe for chaos as every parent knows so stashing a few snacks is always helpful. I’m giving a few tips for toddler photo sessions but in reality this crew didn’t need many of them at all. Little man was having such a blast and since he is a new walker, exploring this awesome outdoor space was heaven. It’s hard to believe in a few short months he will take on the “older bro” role when he meets his new little brother. Such exciting times for this family and I can’t wait to meet their newest addition!
